They are one of the favourite pets: Dogs! Many dog owners would do anything for these cuddly friends on four paws. The best food, lots of play and cuddle time, long walks ... how about a cosy dog kennel for your own territory? With these instructions, you can build your dog a sturdy, weatherproof doghouse with a veranda. The steps are based on a simple wooden frame construction on pallets and are explained in such a way that you can implement them directly.
Lay out the wooden pallet in the desired location in the garden or on the patio. Align them horizontally with the spirit level so that the dog kennel is stable. If necessary, reinforce the pallet with additional wooden slats from below. The raised platform protects the wood from ground moisture.

Saw the wooden posts for the rectangular floor and the corner posts of the hut walls. They form the basic structure of the walls. Connect the posts at the top with horizontal frame timbers to create a stable timber frame construction. Leave the front open - this is where the entrance and veranda will be later.

Once the floor and wall frame are in place, you can build the roof truss. Work precisely so that the roof sits straight later. Saw battens of the same length for the rafters and screw them together in pairs to form triangles - you will need three of these. Attach them to the frame construction. The wood may protrude slightly at the sides so that water can run off easily.

Saw the wooden planks to size for the roof, lay them on the rafters and fasten them with nails or screws. Do the same on the side walls and on the rear wall. The entrance to the dog kennel is a little different.

Once you have completed the door and the floor of the hut, saw the base plate of the veranda to size and attach it to the floor frame. The railing is now placed on top: You will need a few thin wooden slats of the same length. Always attach these to the base plate at the same distance from each other. Attach the handrail to this.

To protect the dog kennel against wind and weather, the wood needs a high-quality glaze and/or weatherproof paint. First sand all visible wooden surfaces smooth. For an even colour result, it is best to use the Sprayer W 600 Flexio – This also makes it easy to paint railings and roof surfaces. You can let your imagination run wild when choosing the colour, whether transparent glaze or colourful design is up to you.

For more cosiness in the interior
For absolute cosiness, you can create a cosy spot for your dog in the interior. Firstly, place an insulating mat, for example a rubber mat, on the floor. It protects against cold and moisture. Depending on the season, place a washable dog cushion or a blanket.
Also make sure that the entrance to the dog kennel is not facing the main wind direction so that your dog is draught-free.
