For many adults, the home office has become one of the most important rooms in their home and an integral part of their work routine. But our little ones also need a quiet place where they can do their homework, learn and be creative. A desk promotes the organization and structuring of tasks, as children have their materials and books to hand. A desk also enables an upright and ergonomic sitting position, which is important for children's health.
As children grow very quickly, height-adjustable children's desks are ideal, as the little ones often grow up faster than we would like. However, they are also relatively difficult and time-consuming to build yourself. We will therefore show you a version of the table made from fruit crates that is super easy to build and can be adapted to the size of your child.
Having their own desk also allows children to unleash their creativity and develop their own ideas. It is important that the desk meets the child's needs and offers sufficient space for work materials.
A good children's desk should offer as few distractions as possible for the child, as there are already too many things in a child's room that attract their attention, such as toys. A clear structure and order are crucial here. Only if the children can find their way around on their own and understand the structure will they enjoy learning and thus be successful. Stationery can be stored in drawers without creating chaos. It is also a good idea to display current learning objectives in a clearly visible way, e.g. by hanging up the alphabet.
The placement of the children's desk within the children's room has a major influence on your child's ability to concentrate and their learning behavior. It makes sense not to place the DIY desk directly next to a window. The distraction of neighbors, birds and the like is simply too much for our little ones. And the light can also be difficult to concentrate on when working in direct sunlight. Studies have also shown that children often feel uncomfortable when they have a door behind them. The desk should therefore be positioned in such a way that they still have a view of the room and still have a closed wall in front of them.
