It is one of the most popular living trends of our time: boho style, also known as bohemian style. Read on to find out how you can turn your home into a boho living oasis with the help of unusual pieces of furniture and unconventional, playful decorative accessories and the right colour scheme.
The beauty of the bohemian style is that it gives interior fans a lot of design freedom and thrives on being constantly developed or redecorated. DIY enthusiasts who like to keep trying out new things will therefore love this interior design style. You could say that a boho living room or any other boho-inspired room in a home is constantly on the move. A mix of old vintage furniture or home accessories and new furnishings create the perfect "imperfect" look.
Anyone entering a room furnished in boho style should get the following from the very first moment: A holiday feeling! The mixture of light, soft colours, lots of plants, wooden furniture and, above all, a variety of different decorative items - including souvenirs from your holiday - will immediately transport you to the sea or the south. Unusual items such as old suitcases, maps or sun hats as well as cushions and blankets with playful patterns and fringes are therefore also suitable as boho decorations.
Great decorations and lots of plants alone are not enough to turn a home into a boho interior design style. Two essential points are the colour scheme of the rooms and the materials used for textiles and furniture. Light colours that create a feel-good atmosphere are essential: off-white, all shades of beige, mustard yellow or soft yellow tones, warm brown, perhaps even rosé or dusky pink here and there and, for example, light mint green as a colour accent. Accessories or individual decorative items in gold and white look particularly beautiful.
As far as furniture and textiles are concerned, solid wood or real wood furniture, sofas and armchairs made of jute, leather, hemp or woven and knitted fabrics are the perfect match for the boho style. Cushions, blankets, curtains, rugs and wall decorations can feature playful, graphic and colourful patterns and be decorated with beads or sequins. A mix of ethnic-style patterns also complements the boho look perfectly.
One thing you can remember about the boho living style: a lot helps a lot! This means that the modern furnishing style thrives on offering a lot to the eye of the beholder. A series of pictures here, (holiday) photographs or a macramé tapestry there, a sofa or bed that literally sinks into cushions and blankets. Lots of candles, vases, colourful books and playful rugs. A special addition to all of this is an urban jungle! This means you can create your own green oasis at home using a variety of different plants such as monstera, fiddlehead fig or calathea. Either as a boho wall with lots of hanging shelves or plant swings or place your green friends on the windowsills of the room you want.
The most important thing about boho style? Furnishing and living should be fun and create a cosy, homely atmosphere.

The word "Boho" is an abbreviation of the French term "Bohème" or "Bohèmien" and originally referred to the Roma ethnic group originating from Bohemia. From the middle of the 19th century, the term was increasingly used to describe a free-spirited Parisian social scene consisting of artists, poets, writers and musicians. They were in favour of a free life and wanted to break with rigid, bourgeois views. The idea of freedom of this cultural grouping was expressed through their art and their unusual style of dress.
Over time, what developed into the hippie chic or hippie look in fashion slowly but surely crept into our living rooms, bedrooms and many modern living concepts in general. Today, boho style furnishing is one of the most popular interior design trends and is not (only) appealing to free spirits, adventurers and globetrotters.
