Texture Art: Creative textured painting on canvas

Wall art for do-it-yourselfers

Do you have that one wall in your house that you've been looking for a picture or work of art for forever? Which has remained empty because you have never found anything suitable? How about getting creative yourself and putting your own ideas on canvas? Your wall, your home, your DIY wall art. Art made by yourself.

We'll show you how to create a textured painting just the way you want it in just a few steps.
A unique piece in your style.

You need the following for texture painting:

  • Protective mask
  • Large cardboard boxes as a base
  • Wooden bar for stirring paint
  • Canvas (size as desired)
  • Color of your choice
  • Gauze bandages

Make texture art yourself: step by step

Step 1: Spray on canvas

Once you have mixed the colour of your choice with a little water in your paint sprayer, you can start spraying. Place the canvas in front of a large cardboard or protective film and start spraying horizontally from side to side at an even speed. Keep spraying until the entire canvas is evenly coloured.

Step 2: Wrap, wrap, wrap - gauze bandage art

Now it's time to get creative! Attach one end of the gauze bandage to the back of your picture and stretch it to the opposite side, where you also staple it in place. Repeat the process with a new piece of tape, loop it around the first one and secure it on the back. This will gradually create your personalised mural!

The foundation for interesting texture art has been laid. Now you can attach more gauze bandages to the back as you wish, intertwine them with other ribbons and create a beautiful pattern. Keep doing this until the whole picture has an interesting and exciting pattern of gauze bandages.

Step 4: Coloring gauze bandages

Then the paint and paint sprayer are used again. Because now the ribbons can be coloured. Carefully spray all the ribbons along their structure with the same colour as the background. Make sure that you do not spray the background again so that the colour intensity does not change. This will give you beautiful tone-on-tone texture art for your four walls.

Finished? Looks good, doesn't it?

Now it's just a case of: Hang up or decorate your self-made textured picture and enjoy!

Our tip:

Let your imagination run wild. Instead of one large work of art, you can also opt for two or three smaller ones that are color-coordinated.
A special highlight could also be to design your DIY picture in the complementary color of your wall paint. This creates an exciting contrast that makes the room appear more lively. There are lots of ideas, just get started!
