Correct masking: Perfect preparation for painting & varnishing

Anyone who paints or varnishes should always mask properly! Because clean edges and protected surfaces ensure a professional result. Whether masking windows, protecting walls or covering mouldings - with the right technique and the right material, you can avoid unwanted paint splashes and time-consuming touch-ups.

Step by step: Correct masking

Step 1: Masking the floor

A robust protective cover should be used to protect the floor. Painter's fleece or foil are particularly suitable. Secure the material with adhesive tape to prevent it from slipping. It is best to remove the skirting boards when painting walls in order to achieve an optimum result.

Step 2: Masking windows made easy

Window frames and glass surfaces are particularly sensitive to paint splashes. Painter's tape and masking film effectively protect these areas. It is important that the adhesive tape is pressed down firmly to prevent the colour from bleeding.

Step 3: Masking the ceiling

Use masking tape in combination with masking film. Stick the tape along the edge of the ceiling and fix the film inwards to protect the ceiling.

Step 4: Masking sockets

Tape the sockets cleanly to avoid paint splashes. Start on the outside with the corners and edges and work your way inwards. A socket outlet should only be removed by trained personnel!

Step 5: Masking the door frame

Carefully mask with masking tape and foil to avoid paint splashes. It is particularly important to tape the edges of the radiator and all pipes.

Even faster & more evenly: Use the paint spray system!

Instead of working with a brush or roller, a paint spray system can be used. This allows paints and varnishes to be applied particularly evenly - and in the shortest possible time. Careful masking is also essential here to achieve a perfect result. Here you can find more advantages of why you should use a paint spray system

FAQ: Correct masking

When painting or varnishing, paint splashes or unclean edges quickly occur. To avoid this, all surfaces that are not to be painted should be carefully masked. This not only saves time, but also produces a flawless end result.

Special painter's tape, for example masking tape, adheres well and can be easily removed without leaving any residue. For large areas, an adhesive tape with integrated masking film is advantageous. This is particularly suitable for radiators, windows and doors.

The substrate must be clean and dry for optimum adhesion of the adhesive tape. The surface should therefore be thoroughly cleaned beforehand. Even fine dust can impair adhesion. Before masking, wipe over the entire area with a dry cloth to remove any residue.

It is best to stick the masking tape in one piece. The fewer denominations, the lower the risk of paint running under the masking tape. It is important to press the tape down firmly and avoid air bubbles. The edges should be taped with millimetre precision to achieve a clean result.

Remove the adhesive tape while the paint is still slightly damp. If painting twice, remove the tape after the last coat before the paint dries completely to avoid unclean edges. The adhesive tape should be removed slowly and evenly and at an angle between 45 and 90 degrees.
