With the following nine tips and tricks, we explain what you should absolutely pay attention to in order to achieve the perfect spraying result.
Paint spraying is fast and efficient. Nevertheless, when working with a paint sprayer, you must pay attention to the safety instructions. The wearing of personal safety equipment when spraying paint is a legal requirement. We recommend wearing a respiratory mask as well as safety goggles and gloves. Long-sleeved clothing and shoes offer additional protection.
With Airless spraying the choice of nozzle size and gun filter are important. The material being used will determine which ones to use. The right choice is crucial for a perfect spray result. The nozzle angle determines the width of the spray jet. The bore diameter of a nozzle controls the paint flow rate. The choice of filter depends on the type of material. Essentially, the more viscous the material, the coarser the filter should be.
Before spraying, we recommend carrying out a spray test on a piece of cardboard. If the spray pattern is unsatisfactory, for example due to tailing on the edges, you can adjust the following settings: First, check the pressure setting. An increase in the spray pressure leads to the nozzle being supplied with more material and therefore the spray pattern is more even. The material can also be diluted, since the viscosity is also crucial for the material's spraying properties. The right nozzle size is a further factor that influences the spray pattern. The choice of nozzle depends on the material. The wear of the nozzle also needs to be considered. If necessary, the nozzle should be replaced.
Nozzle extensions make working with Airless paint sprayers more efficient, by increasing the working radius. The nozzle extensions are also useful for accessing hard-to-reach areas. This means that coating radiators, ceilings, door and window frames is made easier. Depending on the project, there are matching extensions between 15 and 60 cm. The use of a nozzle extension often means that the use of ladders or scaffolding can be reduced. The Airless nozzle extensions are compatible with all WAGNER Airless guns and are available with a G or F thread.
When painting or applying emulsion paints, we recommend first spraying the corners and edges and then the surfaces. This will guarantee the even application of paint. If necessary, you can spray in a cross-coat pattern to achieve better surface coverage.
With airless spraying, paint is applied at high pressure so the right technique is important. To achieve the best possible spray results, the spray gun must be moving before pressing the gun trigger. This applies the paint evenly to the surface without leaving streaks. When finishing the gun trigger should also be release prior to stopping moving the gun.
With airless spraying of emulsion paint an even distance of 10 to 25 cm should be maintained between the gun and the object being coated. The gun must also be held at an angle of 90° to the surface. If the distance is too great and the gun is swung, the spray jet widens. This can lead to the spray pattern fading and creates more overspray. If the distance is too small, the paint is applied at too high a concentration leading to drips. You should therefore try and maintain an even distance and angle along the entire object in order to achieve a even thickness of paint application.
